USA Network has renewed the Law & Order spin-off “Criminal Intent” for an 8th season according to TV Week. The show moved to the network last year, in a rather strange, and uncommon network shuffle. New episodes of the series run on USA first, then are also run on NBC throughout the year.

This 8th season will consist of 16 more episodes.

“We’re thrilled to have ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’ for another season,” said Bonnie Hammer, president, NBC Universal Cable Entertainment and Cable Studio. “We not only forged new ground with its launch on USA last October, but we also succeeded in delivering to our viewers some of the finest writing and acting on television.”

Mr. Wolf thanked Ms. Hammer and Jeff Wachtel, executive VP for original programming at USA, for keeping the series going.

“I am extremely pleased that we will be back on USA for our eighth season,” he said. “‘Criminal Intent’ has thrived in its new home on USA and will for years to come.”

It is not often that I decide to delve into politics on one of our blogs. I’m still not going to get into a lengthy debate about anything here politically speaking, but I do feel that the video clips below from the Daily Show on May 11th, 2008 show exactly why this show is so very important right now.

In these clips you clearly see a member of the media taking a member of the Bush Administration to task - and I believe that Douglas Feith defends himself well, even if he doesn’t seem to understand what John is saying. The point is, this type of things should be happening to all of our administration on a regular basis. Actually ASKING these types of questions is sorely needed on our “news” networks - its a shame you have to go to the network that runs “Drawn Together” to find responsible journalism.

If you’ve ever wondered why shows like “Arrested Development” don’t make it while tons of reality shows do, then you should take a look at this list of the Top 20 shows of the 2007-2008 season.

Comedy, apparently, just isn’t top dog when it comes to television. The top 10 is almost entirely American Idol variations and Dancing with the Stars shows. The remaining Top 10 are rounded out by “Desperate Housewives”, “House”, “CSI”, and “Grey’s Anatomy”.

The only straight comedy in the Top 20 is “Two and a Half Men”. 5 of the remaining bottom 10 are reality shows (or football) as well.

“Reality” programming isn’t going anywhere anytime soon…and - man - that just makes me sad.

1. American Idol - Tues (FOX)
2. American Idol - Weds (FOX)
3. Dancing with the Stars - Mon (ABC)
4. Dancing with the Stars (ABC)
5. Dancing with the Stars - Tues results show (ABC)
6. Desperate Housewives (ABC)
7. Dancing with the Stars - results show (ABC)
8. House (FOX)
9. CSI (CBS)
10. Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)
11. NBC Sunday Night Football (NBC)
12. Survivor: China (CBS)
13. The Moment of Truth (FOX)
14. NCIS (CBS)

Batman Gotham Knight - Official Trailer

Before “The Dark Knight” hits theaters Batman fans will get another bat-related event. This one, designed for the small screen. Batman: Gotham Knight is a direct-to-video project that follows the same idea as the “Animatrix” dvd film that came out a few years ago.

There are six interlocking films done in completely different animated styled, each patterned after the design sensibilities and style of their directors.

The one thing that will remain the same throughout the film, however, is the voice of Batman…and by that I mean THE VOICE of Batman.

Kevin Conroy is considered by many to be THE voice of Batman - from his first days voicing the character on Batman: The Animated Series, up to his portrayal of the character in the Justice League animated series, there is no other voice actor more associated with Batman. Each time DC does a direct to video animated project with Batman in it, one of the first questions asked is if Kevin will be playing Batman.

Thankfully, this time the answer is yes, and things couldn’t be looking any better for Batman: Gotham Knight. Look for it soon.

David Cook is your 2008 American Idol

Last night was big night for David Cook, even if it wasn’t a terribly surprising outcome for the rest of us. Sure on Tuesday David Archuleta sang his heart out. Sure Simon Cowell endorsed him - but everyone still knew that Cook was going to win.

Wisely, Cook doesn’t seem to be letting the win go to his head saying “I walked into this competition with no expectations and I’m walking out with out any.”

That’s good thinking when you look at the success levels of previous Idol winners and finalists. It’s a mixed bag. Some, like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood go on to be super stars. Others, like Reuben Studdard have had a harder time making it to super stardom.

Will Cook be the next Underwood or Clarkson Idol, or will his biggest gig in a few years be performing on American Idol again as a guest?

Only time will tell.

If they’re not careful the creative team behind The CW’s ‘90210′ may find themselves off the rails before they even get started.

It was already announced that Jenny Garth will be reprising her role on ‘90210′ playing a guidance counselor in the pilot of the reincarnated series. Now Torri Spelling is also going to be appearing in the pilot. It’ll only be a cameo in the mall, but still - we’re talking two old cast members in the very first episode. They’re going to have to ration these things out or they’re going to run out of old cast members in season one.

There are rumors that Ian Ziering is also interested in appearing on the show - and we all know that Luke Perry has been hanging out on the Sci-Fi Channel recently (so you KNOW he’ll be ok with showing up). Jason Priestley hasn’t been doing anything either - in fact, I can’t think of one cast member from the original show that is too high up the ladder of success to NOT appear on this thing - so they’re coming…it’s just a matter of time.

Russell T. Davies, who has overseen “Doctor Who” since its relaunch on the BBC in 2005 is leaving the series when the next full series launches in 2010.

Davies will be succeeded by longtime ‘Who’ writer-producer Steven Moffat, who is the creator of shows like ‘Coupling’, and ‘Jekyll’. Moffat’s comments from the BBC press release include: “My entire career has been a Secret Plan to get this job. I applied before but I got knocked back ‘cos the BBC wanted someone else. Also I was seven. Anyway, I’m glad the BBC has finally seen the light, and it’s a huge honour to be following Russell into the best - and the toughest - job in television. I say toughest ‘cos Russell’s at my window right now, pointing and laughing.”

Sounds like we’ve got a great guy taking over this essential role in the series.

Rumors still abound that David Tennant may not return for the 2010 season, but we all hope that’s not true. There is currently no word on if Davies will continue to be involved with ‘Who’ spin-off ‘Torchwood’ or not.

Season Finale, Season 6, Episode 20

Tonight was the end of the line for the current crop of Stars on the smash hit show. It’s been a long road. When things kicked off we found out that Cristián & Cheryl finished third. So it came down to Kristi & Mark and Jason & Edyta.

Two hours of filler later, we have our winners…Kristi & Mark.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I kind of think its unfair that Kristi was even in this competition. While I understand that skating and dancing are two different things - they’re VERY similar.

We’re talking about choreography to music, with the primary difference being that different moves are performed, and one involves having knives attached to your feet. I don’t know, maybe its just me.

Regardless, Krisit & Mark won the competition and I’m sure Dancing with the Stars will be back soon with a new crop of “celebs” to thrill us all.

At the start of tonight’s “Dancing with the Stars” we’ll immediately find out who’s finishing up in third place. Followed by one more dance with the two finalists. Usher will also perform the Grammy-winning “Yeah!” and “Love in This Club”. We’ll also see a champion crowned in the Junior Ballroom competition, and all the stars from this season will return one last time.

You can check it out tonight on ABC.
