David E. Kelly told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that “Boston Legal” only ended this season because “ABC didn’t want us back.”
Kelly tells the paper that they had to fight to even get a 13 episode 5th season to wrap the show up. “Boston Legal” was never a huge ratings success, but the show did ok, and was praised by critics. It won several Emmys, most notably for William Shatner.
The two hour finally saw two weddings – one with Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen) and Carl Sack (John Larroquette) finally getting together. The other wedding was between Alan Shore (James Spader) and Denny Crane (William Shatner). The two married so that Alan could legally care for Denny like a spouse as Alzheimer’s takes him in the near future, and in turn, Denny can give his fortune to Alan with no problems.
It was a clever, and a appropriate ending for the show. If you missed “Boston Legal” during its run you can catch it on the ION network, and the DVDs are available as well. It’s well worth watching.

I missed the darker side of Alan Shore during the entire run of Boston Legal, I can’t believe it’s been five years. I’m sure going to miss it

Why do we allow out of touch old men to run things like our country, companies, and networks? Boston Legal was a fast-paced cutting edge commentary on America. Oh wait, maybe that’s why Boston Legal was given the ax – the execs at ABC didn’t like looking in the mirror.

I am a 17 year old teenager that loves this show. I was upset when it went off the air. I still watch all the reruns. One of my Favorite episodes is “Son of the Defender”. It was a great run. Wish it would come back.

I just watched the last season of Boston Legal and Im in tears. I cant understand why ABC would not give this most wonderful show another run. I live for Alan Shore. I wished that would do re-runs on a cable network. This show made my day. You just never knew what was going to happen from 1 week to the next. I give David Kelly thumbs up. I wished he could do something else with this great cast. I will always want to know did the drug help Denny

After 3 years of Boston Legal being cancelled, i watch the re-runs and am still amazed by the amazing work they’ve done. I was 13 when I started watching it, and cant help but feel so devastated on the reasonings of ABC to have cancelled such a brilliant show. I love the cast, and I love the producers for having been apart of and creating such marvelous, artistic, honest, and dazzlingly intellectual show I have ever seen. I salute you!
