There’s a lot of talk about the new TV that’s on right now, but I really want to pay tribute to a show that I haven’t discussed nearly enough…FX’s Damages.
Damages could be one of the best shows that I’ve ever seen. Hyperbole? Not really. Sure, there are a lot of courtroom dramas on television right now…Boston Legal, L&O…but they pale in comparission to this almost-masterpeice. Like every other FX drama, it’s gritty…the characters are all painted in shades of gray. Everyone is flawed, and Ellen, the only character that is close to being a good person, is on trial for murder. Glenn Close plays ruthless attorney Patty Hewes to perfection, and is absolutely in Emmy contention for her role in this show. And now, the news has come in that, despite some flagging ratings, Damages has been renewed for a second season.
FX shows have a tendency to fly under the radar for a variety of reasons…obviously, they don’t draw as large of an audience as the bigger networks, and none of them are exactly the kind of show you want to sit down and watch with the family. But, following in the steps of Rescue Me and The Shield, FX is putting out some of the most quality programming on television today.
