emmy.jpgThough the actual Emmy Awards are still months away, the awards season is already gearing up. The LA Times apparently got their hands on an Emmy Nominations List.  On it are a few shoo-ins (Sopranos, Office), a few everyone kind of saw coming (Heroes), and at least one complete shocker (24).The list follows…

TOP 10 DRAMA SERIES FINALISTS(In parens is name of sample episode viewed by judges)Boston Legal (”Angel of Death”)Dexter (”Born Free”)Friday Night Lights (Pilot)Grey’s Anatomy (”From A Whisper to A Scream”)Heroes (”Genesis”)House (”Half-wit”)Lost (”Through the Looking Glass”)Rome (”De Patre Vostro”)The Sopranos (”Soprano Home Movies”)24 (”Day 6: 6 a.m. – 7 a.m.”)

TOP 10 COMEDY SERIES FINALISTS(In parens is name of sample episode viewed by judges)Desperate Housewives (”It Takes Two”)Entourage (”One Day in the Valley”)Extras (”Daniel Radcliffe”)My Name is Earl (”Robbed a Stoner Blind”)The Office (”The Coup”)Scrubs (”My Musical”)Thirty Rock (”Hard Ball”)Two and a Half Men (”Apologies For the Frivolity”)Ugly Betty (Pilot)Weeds (”Cooking with Jesus”)

I’ll forgo gushing about the ones that everyone knew would be there.  First, I’m thrilled to see newcomers ‘Heroes’ and ‘30 Rock’ on the list.  ‘Heroes’ was my absolute favorite new show of the season…possibly taking over my personal spot for favorite drama on TV.  Also, while it doesn’t beat out ‘Office’ on the funny-meter, ‘30 Rock’ is consistently hilarious and deserves its spot on the roster.  Finally, I would never have expected to see ‘Lost’ on the list midway through the season, but the final third of the season is definitely award worthy.

Now, ‘24′…not so much.  This was hands-down the worst season the show has seen.  I know that the Emmy’s are supposed to be based on that one episode that is submitted for consideration and the pilot was pretty dang good, but they need to take the whole season into consideration.  I’m sure they will.

The official Emmy announcements hit July 19, and the awards ceremony airs September 16.
