Hollywood Reporter posted a story earlier today about Erika Cristensen (ABC’s Six Degrees) and David Cross being signed on to co-star in the Jason Biggs comedy “I’m In Hell” this fall. The premise seems gimmicky, but different. Biggs plays a trader on Wall Street who perishes in a car accident, and, since Hell is at full capacity (what an original idea!), is sent to Hell on Earth, where he must attempt to survive without the benefits of his former existance. Christensen is the love interest who is also in the Hell on Earth system, and Cross plays Lucifer himself.
Here’s my question…can a show with ‘Hell’ in the title really become a mainstream hit? I mean, if I’m talking to my grandmother about what I’m watching, I could easily tell her about Lost or The Office, but I don’t think I could very well tell her that I’ll be watching a show called ‘I’m In Hell’. She’d keel over right there.
I wish the premise showed more promise (and I wish that sentence didn’t sound so goofy, but I’m leaving it). It would be interesting to watch the progress of a show with a somewhat controversial title like this and see if it could be successful.
