So I wasn’t as crazy about this episode as I have been about some of the more recent ones. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great hour, but it just didn’t leave me with that ‘wow’ feeling that, for example, Exposé did (and I’m in the minority on that one, apparently). But let’s still take a look at some things we learned last night…

Jack’s so over Kate…

Dang. Kate comes back to save Jack for the second time, this time battling Others and smoke monsters all the way, and all but says she loves him, and what does he say? “Where’s Juliet?” Jack, you are one cold mother…

Juliet will lie until she’s forced to tell the truth…

…and then will only tell as much truth that she has to. She says she doesn’t know what the smoke monster is, but then she’s super-quick to get on the other side of that sonic fence. Then she says she doesn’t know what it is, just that it doesn’t like the fences. But she looked pretty terrified when it was going paparazzi on her. And now the leader of the Losties has welcomed her into the fold.

Smokie’s either a wuss or stupid…

So here’s what I don’t get about Smokey…he can transform into anything, it would seem, but he can’t get in between those trees that Kate and Juliet were hiding in? And can he not just go over the fence like Kate did a few episodes back? I think there’s one of two options here: either Smokey is in with the Others and was just putting on a show about being stopped by that fence, or Smokey is some left-over by-product of whatever the late Dharma Initiative was up to back when they were in power.

Sawyer has to step up…

How interesting that the very episode when we find out that Sawyer truly is a daddy is the same episode where he is forced to step up and take a leadership role with the castaways. I think we’re going to see him really start to embrace and enjoy this leadership position next week…right up until Jack returns and ruins all his fun.

Next week we have a Juliet flashback again, which supposedly picks up right where the flashbacks in Not In Portland left off…telling exactly how she came to the island.
