The Writer’s Strike may be over, but you can still feel its ramifications in summer programming. Take a look at the new CBS summer offerings for example.
Three new reality/game shows are now slated for “The Eye” this summer. ‘Million Dollar Password’ will be hosted by Regis Philbin, and is an update to the classic game show where contestants team up with “celebrities” to guess the secret password. “Greatest American Dog” is a show where owners and pets will live together and compete for the crown of “America’s Top Dog”, and “Jingles” is a game show where contestants write…you guess it…ad jingles that American and a panel of judges will vote on.
Exciting stuff.
On the scripted side of things, two new dramas will premiering. “Swingtown” covers the sexual and social revolution of the 1970s, and “Flashpoint” follows cops in the SRU task force that try to defuse emergency situations.
CBS is also planning two Mixed Martial Arts specials in May and July, further proving that MMA fighting is making its way into mainstream America. An AFI countdown special and the Tony Awards are also scheduled.
