Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, the co-creators of “My So Called Life” are back with a new series, but you won’t find it on any network…because it’s totally online.
The new show “Quarterlife” started out as a pilot for ABC called “1/4 Life”. The pilot aired once, but the duo parted ways with ABC over creative differences. The series revolves around a group of twentysomethings living in the digital generation.
In addition to the series, which will air on My Space, quarterlife.com will also be home to the show, and a social networking site revolving around the series.
All 36 episodes of the angst-filled drama will air online…there is no word on if the show will ever show up in another medium.
I have to commend these guys for taking this chance. There is a preview of the series at Quarterlife.com, and while it’s not normally my cup of tea, I’m going to have to check it out, if for no other reason that to support this idea. Going online to find creative freedom away from the major networks is something that I think more creators are going to do in the future (Joss Whedon I’m looking at you)…and I hope it’s going to lead to some extremely compelling content.
