(S05E11) Stairway to Heaven
If you’re looking for the definition of an “emotional roller coaster,” you should look no further than tonight’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Between Izzie finally realizing that she’s sick and may die to Bailey saving a child’s life at the very last moment, I couldn’t decide whether it was time to cry or laugh.
Right from the very beginning I know Grey’s was going to be interesting. First we see just how much Sloan and Lexi really care for each other, only to be followed by the ridiculousness of her having broken his penis. What could have been a comical situation took on a lot of meaning. Not only did Lexi and Sloan seal their deep feelings for each other, but gains a friend in Sadie. Who, by the way, is rumored to be officially leaving the show. When it comes to Grey’s cast members, what else is knew?
While I haven’t heard anything official on Katherine Heigl’s status, from tonight’s episode it looks like her character is also in need of some life resuscitation. When Denny finally breaks through to her in a very emotional moment that he’s there to take her on to the next life (heaven or hell, the votes still out), she not only makes us question her life as a character, but as a Grey’s Anatomy actress. To be honest, after all of the drama that she’s had with the show, I wouldn’t be too surprised it this isn’t adios.
The biggest storyline tonight, though, didn’t revolved around Izzie, Lexi or Sadie, it focused on Meredith and Bailey. I can’t help but love episodes that focus at least a little bit around Bailey. As much as she warns against it, she always gets so emotionally fired up about each of her cases. How could you blame her though when tonight she was put at odds with the death of one of her fondest pediatric patients and his understandably sad mother. After almost aiding Meredith in ending the death row patients live in order to save the child we saw Bailey reach her very breaking point and then bounce back. That’s just good t.v.
So now I don’t know what to expect. To be honest, I’m more interested in what is going on with the stars personal lives then their character lives. I’ll be doing my homework and reporting back with whatever dirt I can come up with. in the meantime though, kids, it may just be time to say your good byes to at least one of our favorite cast members.
