Catherine Tate has caused quite a stir with her latest radio interview. In the interview they discussed the upcoming 4th season of “Doctor Who”. She made the comment “I think it’s maybe David’s last series…”

When later pressed she mentions that he could “possibly” do the 3 Doctor Who specials in 2009 that will air in leu of a full season.

Now, beyond the fact that that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, 2009 is a LONG way away – and 2010 (which is when series 5 of Doctor Who will officially air) is even further away. It’s my understanding that the 3 specials in 2009 are to give everyone involved with the production a break from the series to keep from getting burned out. It makes very little sense to even do them if they’re just going to introduce a new Doctor that we’ll barely get to know.

Even still, if Tennant does leave the series he will still have played the character longer than anyone other than Tom Baker, who held the title of “The Doctor” for seven years. It’s also important to mention that this rumor always seems to make headlines right before the start of a new series or special (and there is a Christmas Special airing on Dec. 25th) – and people have been saying Tennant was leaving the role almost since the day he started.

This is hardly confirmed at this point.
