The producers of Lost have said repeatedly that there will be a big twist this season that will make us completely rethink what we know about our castaways.  Spoilerfix posted a spoiler today that I think is the big twist.  I’ll put it in after the break, along with some discussion.

CAUTION:  Do not read if you don’t want to know.

“At the close of the episode our beloved cast aways will inform the parachute girl that they’re survivors of Oceanic flight 815.  The parachute girl will give them the unfortunate news that what they’ve just told her is impossible seeing as how the wreckage of that flight was found and recovered, and that there were no survivors. The episode promptly ends thereafter.”

Spoilerfix puts this at the end of next week’s Locke-centric episode, but eOnline teases that it will be at the end of this week’s Jin/Sun-centric episode.  So what does this mean?  Let’s take a look at some options:

  • The island crash was staged…What if the crash of 815 was real, but the Losties that we know were somehow saved from the crash and taken to the island, and the ‘fake’ crash was the one on the island?  But that doesn’t make sense, because we saw the crash at the beginning of this season from the perspective of the Others.  (Sorry, I’m writing things as they come to me, so it might be kind of rambling.)
  • The discovered crash was staged… - Could it be that DHARMA or Jacob or whoever is in charge of this mess created a fake crash so that the searchers would call off the rescue, thereby allowing the survivors of the true crash to stay on the island?  This seems to make the most sense, as it would show why Ben was so determined to keep them on the island…they’re dead to the outside world.  Which brings us to…
  • They’re all dead… - …or incapacitated.  I know that there are several people who believe that they are all hooked up to machines in some laboratory somewhere.  I’ve never been a big supporter of this particular line of thinking, but I’ve gotta say, this bit of knowledge does somewhat help the case.   What if the plane did crash, and the characters we’ve been getting to know died, but their souls became stranded on an island…I’m no Doc Jensen (who I would highly recommend checking out), but that could go somewhere.

Anyway, this definitely stirs the pot, and could absolutely change everything we think we know about the show.
