The inclusion of Heroes (somehow at number 2, even though everything after the first season was garbage)

+

The exclusion of Farscape (seriously, you must not have watched it. Its like Firefly but better and with Muppets)

=

This list is bullshit

Agree with Aaron for sci fi definition, lost is alright and heroes is awesome but wouldn't call either a sci-fi. 4400 is a much better trade out for heroes (and fits pretty legit into sci fi genre). I got given the Dr who series and while I watched them have to say that with a few REALLY good exceptions most of the story lines are so juvenile and predictable it almost put me off it completely, think it deserves a 9 at best. Those of you who said torchwood... well I'm not going to say your opinion is wrong but here's a little challenge for you: find someone who has never seen the show (or dr who) before, tell them what it is about and if they don't insult you for watching crap when you finish I will admit I am wrong =)

Apart from that pretty good list, no idea about your bottom 3 (never seen them before) but if you swap out lost for stargate atlantis, heroes for 4400 move dr who to 9 and maybe go a little less trek heavy (sg-1 isn't consistent but s7 kicks the ass of any trek season) I would call it spot on =)

Battlestar Galactica is undoubtfully the best sci-fi show I've seen. Although must admit the last season seems to be made in rush. Pity.
so, my list:
1. BSG
2. Farscape
3. SG 1
As for star trek series, I've seen most of them, but can not bear it's "idiotic kindness". What the matter with those guys, can they kill anybody not by accident?

Firstly, I think we need to establish that the superhero genre and the scifi genre are NOT the same. Shows like Heroes and, in some of the comments, Smallville and X-Men, simply don't belong in a sci fi list.

Second, Lost isn't sci fi either. Conspiracy shows and monster shows aren't sci fi. X Files might be the only exception to this rule, as they veered into science fiction on occasion. But still it's only part time sci fi.

Third. Firefly is awful. Just awful. I still don't understand how it's small, yet inexpliciably rabid, fanbase has decided it's the greatest sci fi show of all time. Still, it actually IS sci fi, which would put it higher on the list than Heroes or Lost.

Fourth. Flagrant Omissions...Sliders. The first two seasons showed how much fun you could have with a tiny budget and an old remote control. Max Headroom. Possibly the most imaginative thing ever to have come from a former marketing tool and fake VJ. Alien Nation. Lost in Space. I could go on. All the shows I mentioned could easily replace Lost, Heroes, Firefly, Even Quantum Leap, which really is borderline.

But if you are just talking about the shows on the list, and excluding Lost and Heroes for being non qualifiers, then flip Babylon Five and Firefly and you might be close to the truth.

Here is my list.
1. Farscape (Hands down #1 in my book. Brilliant setting, the inning is genius and the characters are just to die for and its sexy and funny. Their is not a single episode that i would take away and that is uncommon. The only complaint is the time travel aspect, but its not a big part of it s0 i dont really mind.)
2. The 4400 (Just like BG it brings many elements like Politics and Religion etc, this gives it a great backbone. Complaint, that they didnt test that powers were safe before that start using them, like say Shawn's power. But not a big deal.)
3. Startrek TNG (I usually like serieses to have a better story joining episodes together. But it gets a 3rd place. Great characters, like the enemy's. The setting is fine, not great but fine.)
4. Lexx ( I know its a shame to have it this high, but i love it. Its sexy, have a steady storyline and it's funny. I havent got any complaints really)
5.6. Battlestar G (New, great ground work. Brilliant settings, like that the politics are all messed up. Sadly i found it boring after the 2nd series.)
5-6. Eureka (Its charming, geeky, loses some points in that they use to much high tech stuff and much of it is impossible So its half in half sci fi/fantasy and im a man who like his Sci fi at least 500m away from fantasy and vice versa. Also they just junked a part of the story line.)

And in not particular order 7-10
Jeremiah (Hate the religious nonsense, like the style over all)
The Pretender (Not really sci fi but kind of, love the style. Hate the new age stuff and the bogus conspiracy things. But besides that i like it.)
Sliders (Not all that great, if it werent for the great characters and how fun Jerry O'Connell is i pro wouldnt have watched it, i like it in a B film type way as well, kinda like they did it on a budget and gave it a good go.)

Look at that, not a single oldie, well i must not be thinking hard enough but thats sort of my list. If it were films or books instead it would be vice verca. The only once im really sure of are Farscape and the 4400.
