I have to say I was surprised to see Kate Winslet take home both the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards in the same night. That has to be a first. Very impressive indeed.

AFI has named their top 10 TV Shows of 2008. The list includes all tv shows and mini-series that aired in 2008, and all networks were considered. Shows from NBC, HBO, FX, and AMC made the list – with HBO dominating, and AMC scoring huge with their two original series.

I would agree with most of the shows on this list, although I would replace “Life” with “The Mentalist”. What do you think?

At the Emmy’s Ricky Gervais was his normal charming – kind of assie self – and we all loved it. I even loved his movie “Ghost Town”. Gervais is one of my favorites – so when I found out he was asked to host The Oscars – I thought that was awesome.

Then I found out he declined. And I was sad.

Ultimately it’s probably a good idea for him to skip it. I couldn’t imagine seeing him do one of those wacky Billy Crystal opening numbers or anything like that. Still – I’d like to see him present.

Last night’s 60th Anniversary Emmy Awards were very entertaining, and much funnier than most of the awards shows that I’ve watched recently.

News of the men and women in final contention for the upcoming Emmy awards leaked overnight, and we’ve got the full rundown below.

There are a few glaring omissions, like Henry Ian Cusick, Terry O’Quinn (who may or may not asked for his name to be removed), and Matthew Fox for Lost. And there are more than a few “really?” names on there…Patrick Dempsey? Best actor? I enjoy Grey’s, but I don’t think he’s in his league on that list.

But, there are several names that I love there…John Hamm for ‘Mad Men’, Michael Emerson for ‘Lost’ (I’ve only called this a couple of times), Ted Danson, Zeljko Ivanek and Glenn Close for Damages, and Jack McBrayer for 30 Rock. Could be a good year.

The Top Ten drama and comedy finalists for the 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced yesterday. This list represents the ten shows that received the most votes from the Television Academy, and which will subsequently go before the Blue Ribbon Panel on the weekend of June 28-19…hey, that’s tomorrow! The results will be announced on Thursday, July 17.

I guess it says something about the state of television today that I forgot that the Golden Globes were yesterday until I got up this morning.

In a ceremony that rivaled awards shows in years past…and by that, I mean a press conference…the winners for 2007 were announced. It’s interesting that none of the typical, go-to shows were the winners this year. As a matter of fact, with the exception of Tina Fey’s much-deserved win for 30 Rock, there is not a single network show on this list.

Maybe that should tell you something.

Also, I’ve actually just finished my first run through the season of Mad Men this weekend, and I’ve gotta say…if there’s one show that deserves Best Drama over Damages, it’s Mad Men. Absolutely fantastic show.

As usual, I have discovered I am not one of “the people” because there is no way in the world I can envision “Two and a Half Men” being the Favorite TV comedy. If that show is your favorite comedy on television, I’m sorry, but we can’t be friends.
