If you were one of people who inexplicably bought a Zune, Microsoft’s answer to the iPod, and have been waiting patiently in the wings for the device to reach out there and grab a huge chunk of the market share, that moment is definitely possibly probably not right around the corner. But here’s something that might make you smile, anyway.
Starting this week, you’ll be able to purchase episodes from NBC’s catalogue, like Office, 30 Rock and Heroes from the Zune Marketplace. You may remember back in August, there was a big stink between Apple and NBC over the distribution of shows over iTunes…NBC wanted to be able to sell their programs at flexible prices (like up to $4.99 a pop), and Apple wanted to stick with the $1.99 pricetag, like every other studio is doing. In retaliation, NBC pulled its content from iTunes completely.
So, history lesson aside, you can get NBCU shows on Zune Marketplace (all currently priced at $1.99, though that’s subject to change in the contract). So, if you’re like me, you’re ready to throw your iPhone out the window and pick up one of those slick looking Zunes…but wait, dear reader, there’s more. According to this story over at sister site Apple Gazette, apparently NBC content is now available in the iTunes UK store. So it could be just a matter of time until all is right with the world again.

06 NO CommentsI can’t believe I just typed that headline.
First off, I love Dave Attell. His previous Comedy Central show, “Insomniac with Dave Attell” was like “Dirty Jobs” meets liver disease, and I loved it.
Now it looks like he’s coming back to the network to host a re-imagined version of the 1970s variety show “The Gong Show”. In the show, “talented” people would perform interesting abilities - all the while trying to impress the celebrity judges enough to not get “gonged” and kicked off the show.
One of the more famous bits from the show was when these two young ladies licked popsicles for almost 2 minutes….no, I’m not kidding…watch…
What on earth will they do on this new show?

SpikeTV has ordered 6 episodes of ‘Factory’ a largely improvised comedy revolving around four small-town factory workers “who’d rather do anything than work their boring jobs”.
Sound familiar?
Of course it does. It’s “The Office” in a factory.
This will be the first comedy series ever commissioned by SpikeTV, and it will star Mitch Rouse, co-creator of “Strangers with Candy”.
“Factory is a unique improvised comedy that captures the everyday lives of four regular guys,” said Bill McGoldrick, VP of original programming at Spike. “The humor speaks directly to our viewers, and Mitch’s sensibility is a perfect match for our brand.”
Whenever an executive uses the word “unique” it makes my skin crawl and my head hurt. I’ll be checking out “Factory” and I can’t wait for it to prove me wrong and be something more than the cheap knock-off it looks like.

Larry King is 74 years old, and while most men would be retired at that age, King just won’t have it. Sure, he’s looking more and more like Mr. Burns every day, but that’s not stopping him from doing his show on CNN until at least June, 2011.
There have been rumors that Katie Couric might replace King in his CNN primetime spot. She’s not exactly burning up the ratings charts doing the evening news, and I’m not sure why anyone would want to have her replace a ratings mainstay on their network, but the rumors existed non-the-less. CNN, however, has squashed them, saying that “Larry is the best there is. He’ll be here for a long time.”
TV Squad points out that there are a few signs that Mr. King might be losing touch with the modern world. Apparently over the last year or so he’s had some problems with things that a host should probably know, for example he didn’t know that Seinfeld had been cancelled when he interviewed Jerry Seinfeld last year. He accidentally called Ringo Starr “George” in a recent interview, and a couple of years ago he admitted that he’s never been on the Internet.

NBC is making a shift to its Thursday night line-up this week, moving “30 Rock” to the post-Office 9:30 (EST) time slot. The slot is considered an upgrade for the show, since it should benefit from the large audience attracted to the goings-on of Dunder Mifflin - Scranton, each and every week.
“30 Rock” is already renewed for next season, while “Scrubs” will soon be moving to ABC, and will air its last NBC broadcast episode in a few weeks - so it only makes sense that the network would want to put “30 Rock” back in the 9:30 slot.

Viacom, MGM, and Lionsgate are teaming up for a new pay-cable channel that will compete with the big boys like HBO, Showtime, and Stars in 2009. So far, the new channel is unnamed, but we do know that it will be the only place to watching upcoming Paramount movies on pay-cable.
So when that new Star Trek film hits television, it will be on this network first, along with anything else that comes out of the Paramount stable in the near future.
In addition to being a pay-cable channel, services will also include video on demand. The channel will, of course, combine new and classic feature film output, and they are also going to produce original television series to compete with HBO and Showtime.
Interestingly, the press release mentions Robocop and The Outer Limits as two new ventures that the network will have access to. One has to wonder if either of those will end up being television shows on the network after it launches.

The Writer’s Strike may be over, but you can still feel its ramifications in summer programming. Take a look at the new CBS summer offerings for example.
Three new reality/game shows are now slated for “The Eye” this summer. ‘Million Dollar Password’ will be hosted by Regis Philbin, and is an update to the classic game show where contestants team up with “celebrities” to guess the secret password. “Greatest American Dog” is a show where owners and pets will live together and compete for the crown of “America’s Top Dog”, and “Jingles” is a game show where contestants write…you guess it…ad jingles that American and a panel of judges will vote on.
Exciting stuff.
On the scripted side of things, two new dramas will premiering. “Swingtown” covers the sexual and social revolution of the 1970s, and “Flashpoint” follows cops in the SRU task force that try to defuse emergency situations.
CBS is also planning two Mixed Martial Arts specials in May and July, further proving that MMA fighting is making its way into mainstream America. An AFI countdown special and the Tony Awards are also scheduled.

This is one of those announcements that doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense. Lifetime Network - you know, the “network for women” - has cast male chauvinist Donald Trump as himself in a show Lifetime Entertainment President Susanne Daniels describes as “Desperate Housewives in Trump Tower with The Donald narrating.”
I can’t quite figure out what Lifetime is hoping to accomplish with this series…but maybe they’ve already done it. Here we are talking about the Lifetime Network - something that wouldn’t have happened without this announcement.

Even before High School Musical 3: Senior Year this the movie theaters on October 24th (just in time for Halloween - huh?) the Disney Channel is starting work on the 4th installment in the series.
Obviously, since High School Musical 3 is subtitled “Senior Year”, there is most likely going to be a “next generation” aspect to High School Musical 4. “We are writing ‘High School Musical 4,’ ” Disney Channel Worldwide president Rich Ross confirmed Tuesday. “Are we going to have all the cast back? Probably not,” Ross said. “Will we have some of them? I hope so.”
Right now High School Musical 4 is being planned as a TV movie, although if the 3rd film performs well enough at the box office, its possible that could change.

I’m very glad to report that “King of the Hill” has been renewed by Fox for a 13th season. I’ve always been surprised that the show managed to hang on for all these years with the terrible time slots that its had during its run, but finally, Fox has figured out that an entire night of animation is the way to go on Sundays. If they’d had that revelation a few years ago, Futurama would never have been cancelled…nor would Family Guy. Fortunately both of those shows are back from the dead, while “King of the Hill” has managed to struggle along through the rough patches.
Now, however, things are looking good for Hank Hill and family, and I have to say, out of all the animated series that I’ve mentioned…”King of the Hill” is my absolute favorite. I love the Hill family - so much so that I watch repeats on FX daily. I’m excited to see that we’re getting a 13th season, and I’d love to see 13 more.
Long live the King!
