Wow…so…um. hmmm…where to start.
You know, I am a huge fan of Superman. By that regard, I have been a huge fan of Smallville - but as this show grows older and older it seems like things just get more and more absurd with it. First off - Tom Welling is older than the guy who played SuperMAN in the last movie. With pretty much the entire DC Universe already having shown up in the series, you would think by now that he’d be in the tights with the big red “S”on his chest….but no…anyway, I’m rambling…
In this episode we’re treating to a trip through the mind of Lex Luthor after he’s shot in the head (which apparently you can fully recover from in one episode), and we also get caught up with the amnesia infested Kara in Detroit - whom Lex had been stalking…but so had another random dude…anyway…
We see the good Lex and we see the bad Lex in his brain. Thankfully, we see very little of Lana, but Chloe does come in to play the standard role of pot device. Again they are trying to convince us that Chloe is toast - but I think at this point they’ve cried wolf one too many times on Chloe, and I seriously doubt the character will ever be killed off.
All in all, not the greatest episode - or season for that matter.

The Black Canary entered into Smallville continuity tonight, and…um…wow…it really sucked. Seriously, the character they called Black Canary barely resembled the character she’s based on, and the gothy looking make-up mask and chopped off blond hair was just plain weird.
In the “story” she’s a pawn of Lex Luthor’s (who may be the worst gun shot in the world, btw) and eventually she figures it out and joins up with the good guys.
The episode also spends a lot of time focusing on the continued strain of of the Clark/Lana relationship - which I think just about every Smallville fan is hoping will end as soon as possible. The relationship has been over for years now, but they keep coming back to it, and I have no idea why.
They did lay some more ground work for the eventual Lois and Clark relationship, even go so far as to establish why he wouldn’t tell her who he is…if for some reason there was any way she wouldn’t be able to tell since she’s seen Clark without his glasses for years now…
Anyway, like most Smallville episodes this one had some good moments, but (like many Smallville episodes) overall it wasn’t really worth watching.
Grade: C-

The CW has released the above poster to promote the next new episode of Smallville which is set to air on Jan. 31st, 2008. You can read the official episode description below.
BIZARRO TAKES OVER CLARK’S LIFE AND TRACKS DOWN BRAINIAC — While Clark (Tom Welling) is frozen in the Fortress, Bizarro takes over his life with Lana (Kristin Kreuk). Unaware she is with Bizarro, Lana enjoys the “new Clark” and shares information she’s gathered on a serial killer who is draining his victims of all trace minerals. The two conclude it must be Brainiac (guest star James Marsters) and Bizarro sets off to find him. Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) is stunned at Lionel’s (John Glover) reaction after Grant (guest star Michael Cassidy) reveals he is a clone of Julian. Marc McClure, Jimmy Olsen from the Superman films, guest stars as Dax-Ur. Allison Mack, Erica Durance, Aaron Ashmore and Laura Vandervoort also star. Todd Slavkin directed the episode written by Holly Henderson & Don Whitehead

“Gemini” ending with a huge reveal that will keep Smallville fans on the edge of their seats until the show returns. It was a great twist, and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

Actor Sam Jones III is returning to Smallville as a guest star in Feb in the episode “Hero”. There is no word on if his role will be recurring in the future, or if it is just a one time guest spot. What is known, however, is that old Pete won’t be happy with the changes that have occurred since he left the show a few years ago.
In the episode Pete will be getting temporary powers from a Kryptonite related incident (but really, who HASN’T that happened to at this point?), and it will have some kind of effect on his relationship with Clark - which has apparently been non-existent. You’d think the two would have been emailing or something.
Anyway - look for him in Feb.

James Marsters returns to Smallville in January - although from this image I’m not 100% sure in what capacity. This is a promotional image from the shot, and old Braniac and Superman there sure do seem to be having an awfully civilized conversation.
So is Marsters coming back as friend…or foe? We’ll find out in January.

The title of the episode is “Gemini”. At one point in the story Chloe and Jimmy are on an elevator, and he really has a hard time understanding why Clark is the person she calls when she’s in trouble. The “Gemini” in the title refers to something related to Lex’s big new project.
Supergirl is absent from this episode.
There is a holiday background to this episode, and it has enough twists and turns to serve as a Season finale, even though it isn’t one…but with this writer’s strike - it’s close…

09 2 CommentsIt’s funny how over the years Smallville has developed its own continuity. They have decided to take it one step further with Clark apparently meeting his birth mother, or at least a reasonable facsimile in the latest episode of the hit CW series…
