Video: Smallville Season 7 Episode 8 Trailer

It’s funny how over the years Smallville has developed its own continuity. They have decided to take it one step further with Clark apparently meeting his birth mother, or at least a reasonable facsimile in the latest episode of the hit CW series…

Helen Slater returns to Smallville for her second appearance in this episode, and the treachery of Zor-El is revealed!

The Official CW Description:

HELEN SLATER RETURNS AS LARA-EL; CLARK MEETS HIS BIOLOGICAL MOTHER FOR THE FIRST TIME — Clark (Tom Welling) hears the voice of his biological mother, Lara (guest star Helen Slater), calling for help from Kara’s (Laura Vandervoort) crystal and decides to release her, despite Jor-El’s warnings. Lara and Clark reunite and she gives him Jor-El’s ring, which contains blue kryptonite. As Clark puts it on, he realizes Zor-El (guest star Christopher Heyerdahl) manipulated the whole thing and that blue kryptonite strips him of his powers, enabling Zor-El to take control of the Fortress of Solitude. Meanwhile, Chloe (Allison Mack) and Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) each discover Lois (Erica Durance) and Grant (Michael Cassidy) have been seeing each other and warn them to stop. Kristin Kreuk, Aaron Ashmore and John Glover also star.

Straight from the picket lines, CBR has the following from Smallville producers Al Gough and Miles Millar:

“Episode 15 is a cliffhanger. To the best of my knowledge, the studio plans to produce all of them. If there isn’t a quick resolution, then the season ends in February. It is our wish that this strike will be resolved quickly so that we can get back to doing what we love — writing.”

So it looks like this season of Smallville could be cut short, but we’ll have more episodes of Smallville than most other shows. With the show being on in years (I mean, 7 years is a LONG time for a show about SuperBOY) many have speculated that this season could be the last, and we know that Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) will not be back as a regular for Season 8 (if there is one). I would really hate it if the show was ended in a cliffhanger, or wrapped up in an unsatisfactory way because of this strike.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

The CW has released an official description of the the 7th episode of the season:

LANA ABSORBS CLARK’S POWERS AND GOES AFTER LEX — Kryptonite and high voltage mix during a lightning storm, causing Lana (Kristin Kreuk) to absorb Clark’s (Tom Welling) powers. Using her newfound super powers, she breaks into Lex’s (Michael Rosenbaum) safe and steals incriminating evidence which she then delivers to Lois (Erica Durance) and Grant (Michael Cassidy), demanding they run a story exposing Lex’s secrets. After Grant refuses to use stolen material, Lana decides to take care of Lex herself. Clark tries to stop Lana from killing Lex and a super battle ensues between the two. Allison Mack, Erica Durance, Aaron Ashmore and John Glover also star.

Neither Jimmy Olsen nor Kara appear in this episode.

I have to say, pretty much anything that focuses on Lana makes me want to not watch Smallville these days, so I’m really not very excited about this episode. I’m also kinda concerned with how easy it seems to be to give someone else Clark’s powers. How many times has this happened now? A few - and each time it seems to get easier to do.

Eventually you’re just going to be able to rub up against him and steal his abilities.

WARNING: Thar Be Spoilers Ahead!

So, with Martha Kent having left the show, and Jonathan Kent having been killed (both of which were really stupid ideas), Smallville is desperate to maintain that “family” aspect of the series. To that end, they have brought Clark’s cousin, Kara, in this season - and also, as it has been heavily reported, his mother will be appearing as well.

Played by Helen Slater, the very same actress who played Supergirl in that terrible terrible movie, Clark’s mother, Lara will be featured in the 6h episode of the series, along with Clark’s uncle, Zor-El.

In the episode, Kara has been kidnapped by the government, and injected with a Kryptonite based “truth serum” that causes her to have flashbacks to a previous visit to Earth, where Lara and Zor-El were actually at the Kent farm.

Meanwhile, Chloe learns of a secret that Lana has been keeping from Clark - and Lex is fascinated by Kara’s crystal.

On a personal note, Smallville, which used to be a favorite show of mine, is really stretching out in the wrong directions this year (in my opinion, at least). As a result - I’m not loving as much as I used to.

Smallville has been one of my favorite shows for years now. It’s starting its 7th Season at the end of this month, and they’re kicking things off with a “Bizarre” season opener…and a super hot Supergirl joining the cast. I can’t wait…

super_pointer.JPGLooks like Smallville will have a whopping two Supergirls on the roster next season.

Helen Slater, who played Supergirl in the 1984 film, will play the aunt of Kara, Smallville’s Supergirl, played by Laura Vandervoort.  There’s no word as to whether she’ll have powers, yet, but her entrance is scheduled for the sixth episode of the season.

She joins the ranks of Super-exes who cameoed on the show, with Christopher Reeve and Dean Cain, who will play a villain in the fourth episode.

Smallville’s Supergirl Cast!

vandervoort.JPGLaura Vandervoort will take on the role of Supergirl in CW’s ‘Smallville’ next season, People is reporting.

You may know Laura from the Canadian series ‘Instant Star’ and an episode of ‘CSI’…and that’s about all I recognize from her IMDB listing.

The future Supergirl will be known as Kara, Clark’s cousin from Krypton.  She’ll one up her cousin, though, as she already has the ability to fly.  Sparks may also fly between her and Jimmy Olsen.

Things are getting interesting in Smallville…

Smallville 6×02

I watched the second episode of Smallville’s 6th season last night, and I’m intrigued by what’s happening with the show.  Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) has shown up in a very “Batman” type roll.  My guess is that since the producers couldn’t use Batman, they decided to use the next best thing…another rich guy that dresses up in a costume…this one just think’s he’s Robin Hood.

So far, I have to say I’m interested.  Particularly with the rumors that we’re getting a full-on “Justice League” episode in January, and seeing that Green Arrow is actually wearing a costume.  Could we see Tom Welling in a Superman costume before this series wraps up?  It’s possible.  My guess is that Superman Returns’ lacluster performance this summer has loosened the noose around the Smallville producer’s necks, and allowed them to play with the DC Universe a little more.

As for this episode itself, it wasn’t terribly remarkable, but it did feature some really interesting, forward moving moments.  Lois has finally developed an interest in journalism, and Oliver was introduced to move the Justice League angle forward.

I’m not sure this is the best time to be jumping on to Smallville, but for long-time fans, things are looking up, and this season might just end up being a winner!
